Everything that happened on the island was real. Jack died at the end, everyone on the plane left the island and lived out their lives, and presumably Hurley and Ben lived a long time on the island before they died. The ALT was a sort of purgatory the characters created, where they could all meet up after they all died and move on together.
And it's beautiful.
I'm an atheist, but the symbolism of these characters that I've loved since Season 1 finally being able to redeem themselves and let go and move on..........absolutely gorgeous.

They died each in their own time, in the island timeline. For instance, Jack "really" died at the end. He really saved the island! Hurley lived on to protect the island for some unknown length of time, with Ben as his #2. Maybe Kate and Sawyer lived for 50 years after Frank flew them home, or maybe they crashed in the ocean. We'll never know. Shannon was shot by Ana Lucia, as we saw. Does all that make sense?

When people finally realize what happened, they will totally appreciate this episode. The island was real, all that happened was real, the sideways was their purgatory of sorts that they created, that allowed them all to meet up and have their community back, and wait until they all slowly died off on the island... Jacks father opening the door was him crossing over to Heaven, where they will all cross over to, if they choose to, the way Ben is staying back for now. I hated this season and this really brought it all together for me and I truly appreciate the full body of work more than ever now. It was a beautiful ending. The people who hate this episode, don't understand what just happened is all. Sure it didn't drive home answers to you, I had many myself, but once I saw the full big picture, I didn't need the answers, when I remembered the hell these people went through and now achieved a happy ending. It will take time to sink in, but people will really appreciate this episode.

There was no split timeline. Jack died on the island. Kate, Sawyer, Lupidus, Miles all flew the jet off the island and lived their lives after they got back to civilization. Hurley served as protector of the island, and Ben served as his aide. When they all died at their various times, they then went to "purgatory" which we know as sideways world. When they were "ready" in "purgatory" they realized what had happened and were ready to move on. So they all did. No telling how long that took. Remember, "There is no now here, Jack" per Christian.
Christian says the time Jack spent with them was the "most important time of his life."
Kate says "I've missed you" because she presumably lived without Jack for a time after leaving the island.
Hurley tells Ben he was a great number 2 because they actually served on the island in the real world for a time.
Ben tells Locke he doesn't need the wheelchair. He didn't need the wheelchair (or PT to learn to walk) because it wasn't real.
Ben tells Hurley he's not ready yet because he's got "more stuff to work out" before he can move on. This is a traditional purgatory motif. Similarly, Ana Lucia and Daniel Farraday are not ready to move on.
Farraday's mom asks Desmond if he is taking Daniel along. His response: I'm not taking him.
Conclusion: The island was real; sidewaysville was "purgatory".

Grazie Eli, ero troppo presa dalle scene Jate per andarmi a cercare commenti all'episodio. Però a me sinceramente è piaciuta la fine. C'era davvero bisogno di una fine felice, che dà speranza, che ti mette il sorriso addosso. Anche la morte può cmq portare la felicità sapendo che nella vita hai trovato la persona che ami e con cui potrai stare insieme per sempre!
Non c'è mai una unica risposta.
I creatori di Lost hanno sempre fatto in modo che la medesima storia potesse essere interpretata in enbtrambi i modi.
Perchè ora dovrebbe essere divesamente?
Quindi ho iniziato a riflettere e mi sono detto: e se quella della "fede" non fosse l'unica chiave di lettura del finale?
Se i creatori di lost non sono ipocriti, avranno fatto in modo che lo stesso finale possa essere intepretatoanche attraverso una chiave di lettura della "ragione". Dunque esiste un altro finale che, però, essendo legato alla regione, dovrà essere trovato attraverso la ragione....
Ovvero ristudiando le puntate di tutte le serie.
Io ho incominciato a farmi qualche domanda...
E ho incominciato a pensare che forse la realtà alternativa non è un limbo o l'aldilà, ma solo una realtà alternativa. Che, come dice Danial nella puntata happily ever after", si è creata dalla generazione di una grande energia.
E se davvero la bomba atomica, esplosa su una grossa sacca elettromagnetica, avesse fatto inabissare l'isola e generato una realtà parallela?
Tale realtà sarebbe un mondo a parte in cui solo le persone dell'Oceanic 815 (o quelle state sull'isola) hanno il potere di creare una connessione con l'altra.
Ed essendo che esse sono le uniche ad essere state coinvolte nella storia dell'isola, sono le uniche a poter ritrovare il contato con l'altra realtà, ritrovandosi fra loro.
Quando Cristhian dice a Jack che sono tutti morti, non significa mica che adesso si tovano in un limbo. Non c'è, difatti, un "ora", giusto? Ma solo un dove....perchè in quella realtà loro non sono morti.
Ma sono già tutti molti nell'altra.
Tutti loro sono morti, non nel senso che alla fine vediamo le loro anime che si rincontrano, ma semplicemente perchè una parte di loro, quella dell'altra realtà, ha già vissuto la morte. In un altro luogo, non in un tempo precedente.
I personaggi della realtà alternativa non sono morti. Semplicemente ricordano la vita e la morte che hanno vissuto nell'altra realtà. Se ne ricordano perchè ritrovandosi hanno ricordato e ricordando hanno ricreato il legame che divideva le 2 realtà.
E ricollegando le 2 realtà, hanno riacceso la luce dell'isola.
La cosa che non mi tornava, infatti, era la chiesa..la luce, che fa tanto paradiso....
Ma quella luce assomiglia incredibilmente alla luce che provbiene dal centro dell'isola. E allora mi si è accesa una lampadina.
Nella sesta stagione, la madre di Jacob e di Black man dice che quella luce è nell'isola e in altri luoghi.
Poi mi sono posto la domanda: perchè quella chiesa?
perchè si ritrovano tutti proprio nella chiesa in cui si erano trovati nella 5a stagione con la madre di faraday? Perchè proprio in quella chiesa aprendo una porta si vede la luce?
E la risposta l'ho trovata nella puntata 5x06 "316", ovvero la puntata che mostra quando loro vanno in quella chiesa.
La madre di faraday inzia a spiegare loro che cos'è quel posto e che cos'è l'isola. E dice qualcosa d'importante...
Dice che sotto l'isola esiste una sacca di energia elettromagnetica e che in giro per il mondo ne esistono altre. Ad esempio ce n'è una proprio al di sotto di quella chiesa. In più tutte quelle sacche sono interconnesse fra loro. LA Dharma usava quella sacca per riuscire a stabilire come trovare l'isola.
E quindi la luce che vediamo comparire da oltre la porta della chiesa, potrebbe non essere il paradiso, ma la stessa energia che abbiamo visto sull'isola, la stessa energia elettromagnetica che crea distorsioni spazio-temporali.
E dunque rimarrebbe solo un'ultimo quesito: a che serve attivare quella sacca? perchè si riuniscono tutti lì e perchè progettano di "andarsene", lasciare tutto alle spalle?
Io credo, ma a questo punto è completamente una mia interpretazione, si tratti della decisione di ricollegare le due realtà, di riaccendere la luce dell'isola, di riportarla in superficie.
Io credo che il finale possa essere tradotto anche come la decisione di tutti quelli stati sull'isola e che hanno ricordato, di tornare sull'isola e viver ela vita che desiderano vivere veramente, nell'unico luogo che glielo permetterebbe, nell'unico luogo a cui ormai appartengono..
In una interpretazione, la più semplice (perchè la fede è così: o ci credi o no, nessuna elaborazione complessa) loro vanno in paradiso.
In un altra, la loro personificazione alternativa (quella ancora viva) si ricollega con la memoria di quella morta e i personaggi tornano ad essere una cosa sola e decidono, per poter vivere appieno ciò che "sarebbe dovuto essere" decidono di artire sull'isola.
